Prospected by Design

Once the rough is harvested. The stones are brought back to the lapidary studio, scrubbed clean and placed in the sun. This allows maximum solar energy to be absorbed by the stones.

Prior to choosing, each stone is carefully evaluated. Only the finest in durability, color, natural design, will be considered. Most importantly. A stone must intuitively spark intrigue and speak to the artisan designer

Treasures from "The Mine" : )

An Old Shoshoni Indian Shaman once told me, "Unless a person can prove they dug their own. Everything else is simply an Assumption"...Authenticity is the only game we play.

A Day Prospecting with LostSierra

At last! At last! Have entered the world of Blogging. How exciting to be able to take you all for a journey spending the day at the "Mines". Surely I will look back on this post. A couple of years from now, and Giggle. But a person from the "70's" has to start somewhere. Right?
Will promise to take a fun approach at this BLOG! Although there will be heartfelt times as well. With-out a doubt entertaining, some drama, a wee bit serious, perhaps even a bit controversial. Most of all Informative, Educational, Supportive with a heavy emphasis on Art, Design Jewelry, and Stones Stones Stones : )

First-off wish to Introduce, the "New Person"at LostSierra. Give it up for: Richard! Clap Clap Applause : ) Lostsierra couldn't be more fortunate, to have a more competent person to come aboard. He has extensive Knowledge of Gems, Minerals, and most of all Lapidary. I seriously doubt, there is a stone on Earth...Richard could not identify, discuss the properties, and Converse/Channel the metaphyiscial benefits.

Richard is a 25+ years native of the Sierra's residing most of that time at Lake Tahoe. He Knows the LostSierra's like the back of his hand. Enough said. Richard "Master of Geologic Wonders". Will be your source furthering everyones knowledge. One of the keys to successful marketing is understanding your materials. Thus confidently allowing one to create jewelry. Which embodies an understanding leading to better design when setting stones...

Other goals of the blog is Ethical and Honest Representation providing Photo's, Geologic locations and an understanding of where ones stones comes from. Buyers respond to integrity, authenticity and heartfelt talent. All which will be on display shortly among Etsy`s Finest.

I`m proud to announce the creation of a New Etsy Team soon to be realized. Stay Tuned : )

Now! Get ready for the first of many adventures to come.

A trip to one of my favorite mines...The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly!

Sometimes, it breaks, my heart, to see how much hard work and effort has gone into developing
these mines. Only then to have WW1 & WW2 force the closure, of non essential mines. The men sent to war, their wives, girlfriends employed to manufacture guns.

After a day, of 4 wheeling, hiking, digging, sledgehammering, sweating and HAULING! The most rewarding aspects are when these magnificent roughs are cut into cabochons. Then set creating spectacular custom designed jewelry. Finally being worn for all to admire.

Enjoy the photo's and thanks for being a part of this exciting journey...
